Client Case Study April May - When I Grow Up

Client Case Study April May - When I Grow Up Um, do you know that Ive coached hundreds of women since I started offering dream career guidance in 2008? And that these women are freakin rock stars, leaving soul-sucking jobs and traveling the world and launching creative, grown-up businesses and simply doing work that fits their lifestyle goals? Well ya do now and youll hear their stories firsthand in my  Client Case Studies series!  Im so glad to have a kind and talented woman with my favorite name and the cutest shop profiled this week: April May of Everything Little Miss! Why did you decide to work with a creative career coach? I decided to work with a creative career coach because I wasnt sure what the next steps for my business should be. I had ideas, but really need a little push and some encouragement from somebody who wasnt related to me. What were you doing work-wise when we started our sessions? I think I started working with Michelle just after I got a really boring receptionist job. Prior to that, Id been laid off for 9 months and had, on a whim, opened an Etsy shop to sell stationery. What was your biggest takeaway from our work together? My very biggest takeaway? I was really scared to contact retail stores about my stationery line because I was terrified of rejection. You, wisely, told me the worst they would do was say no. It was so simple and so true. I still think about that often, whenever I face something that feels scary. I ask myself, whats the worst that could happen? Often, its not really so bad. Also, the I learned to set business goals and to break the goals down into bite-sized steps to avoid total overwhelm. I use that little trick regularly! Was there anything else you tried to do as a career between the time we stopped our sessions and what you do for work now? If so, how did it inform your current career? You encouraged me to get a job in the stationery industry to learn more about the ins and outs. I applied for a job as the office manager at a local letterpress stationery company. Luckily, they hired me! I learned a lot and used my knowledge to build my own business on the side. After 3 years, I had a baby and working there didnt make sense anymore and I left to work on Everything Little Miss full-time (well as full-time as possible while also being a stay-at-home mom!). I spent a lot of time figuring out my brand and Everything Little Miss has been growing every year. What would you tell someone now that was in your shoes when we first started working together?  Whats your best tip to allow them to make a grown-up living doing what they love? Be prepared to work really hard. Just because you love doing something doesnt mean its easy. Also, loving something doesnt necessarily mean it should be your career. Some things are fun because theyre hobbies, but doing it all of the time would make it really tedious. Make sure you want to spend a lot of time on whatever it is you love. Whats on the horizon for your  business? There will be some changes for Everything Little Miss later this year. Im not ready to share the details quite yet, but Im really excited! We also recently added a few new maps and hedgehogs to the shop, so be sure to take a peek! Wanna  coach with me personally, like April did? Theres still 1 spot left for an April start and another for May until Im booked through July! Check out the details and fill out a no-obligation application here.
